Who Are The 4 Ministers Takes Oath With Himanta Biswa Sarma In Guwahati Today?

Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as the Chief Minister of Assam on Tuesday, beginning his second consecutive term in office after the BJP-led NDA alliance secured a strong victory in the 2026 Assembly elections.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Khanapara Veterinary College field in Guwahati in the presence of several senior BJP leaders, Union ministers and chief ministers from NDA-ruled states.

Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office to Sarma and members of the new Council of Ministers at around 11:40 am.

Sarma Creates Political History In Assam

With this victory, Himanta Biswa Sarma has become the first non-Congress leader in Assam to return as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term.

This also marks the third consecutive NDA government in the state.

The BJP-led alliance secured a comfortable two-thirds majority in the recently concluded Assembly elections, strengthening Sarma's political position in the state.

Speaking after the ceremony, Sarma thanked the people of Assam for their support and promised to continue working towards development and governance.

Four Ministers Took Oath Alongside Sarma

Along with the Chief Minister, four ministers from the BJP and its alliance partners also took oath.

The ministers include:

Rameswar Teli

Rameswar Teli, a former Union Minister of State, returned to state politics after contesting the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.

He won from the Duliajan Assembly constituency by defeating Congress candidate Dhruba Gogoi by a margin of 10,459 votes.

Atul Bora

Atul Bora, president of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), also joined the new Cabinet.

He won the Bokakhat Assembly seat with a massive margin of over 60,000 votes.

Bora has been serving in important ministries related to agriculture, horticulture, food processing and urban development since 2016.

Charan Boro

Charan Boro from the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) retained his position in the Assam government.

He has represented the Majbat Assembly constituency since 2016 and has been serving as a Cabinet minister since October 2025.

This year, he won the election by a margin of more than 55,000 votes.

Ajanta Neog

Ajanta Neog also took oath as minister.

She has been Assam's Finance Minister since 2021 and is the first woman Finance Minister of the state.

Neog won the Golaghat Assembly seat for the fifth consecutive time since 2001.

NDA Names Speaker Candidate

Himanta Biswa Sarma also announced that senior BJP leader Ranjeet Kumar Dass would be the NDA's candidate for Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.
Dass had earlier served as Speaker when the BJP-led alliance first came to power in Assam in 2016.

He also held ministerial responsibilities in previous governments.

PM Modi And Top Leaders Attend Ceremony

The swearing-in ceremony witnessed the presence of Narendra Modi along with several Union ministers and senior BJP leaders.

Chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from multiple NDA-ruled states also attended the event.
Leaders from outside the NDA alliance, including the Chief Minister of Mizoram, were also present at the ceremony.

Extensive arrangements were made at the venue to accommodate thousands of attendees and dignitaries.

NDA Registers Massive Victory In Assam

In the recently held Assam Assembly elections, the NDA alliance secured a decisive mandate in the 126-member Assembly.

The BJP emerged as the single largest party with 82 seats.
Its allies - the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People's Front (BPF) - won 10 seats each.

Meanwhile, the Congress party managed to secure only 19 seats in the election.
The strong electoral victory has further strengthened the BJP's position in the northeastern region.

Focus On Development And Governance

After taking oath, Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed confidence in his new team and said the government would continue focusing on development, infrastructure and public welfare.

"My heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all of them. Together, we will continue to work with full dedication for a stronger, more developed and prosperous Assam," Sarma said.

The new Assam government is expected to begin administrative meetings and portfolio allocations in the coming days.
