Sonam Wangchuk Advocates for Voting to Combat Glacier Melting and Protect Nature

Sonam Wangchuk, a climate activist, has called on citizens to prioritise environmental issues when voting. He emphasised the importance of using democratic rights to combat glacier melting, preserve flora, and protect nature. During an event in the city, he highlighted the need for representatives who actively support environmental causes in legislative bodies.

Wangchuk, known for inspiring a character in the film "3 Idiots," believes that change comes from collective action. He stated, "I will say if there is no change in saving the environment, the government has to change. But let every party turn into a green party instead of people individually approaching any big political leader. That has to be our mission." He encouraged voters to consider climate issues during elections.

Environmental Advocacy and Political Change

The activist shared historical examples of social change, such as the fight for voting rights by African Americans and women. He drew parallels with the current struggle for environmental recognition in politics. "Even our Prime Minister Narendra Modiji is helpless," he said, referring to challenges in enforcing policies like banning single-use plastics.
