Viral Video: ISKCON Devotees Respond Peacefully After Youth Eats KFC Chicken At Pure-Veg Govinda’s
A recent incident at ISKCON's Govinda's vegetarian restaurant in London has gone viral, sparking widespread attention on social media. What began as a controversial act soon transformed into a peaceful and spiritual response by ISKCON devotees.
A few days ago, a young British man entered the London branch of Govinda's, a temple-affiliated, pure-vegetarian restaurant operated by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). To the shock of patrons and staff, he pulled out a bucket of KFC chicken and began eating it inside the strictly vegetarian establishment. Making the situation worse, he even offered some of the meat to a waitress. Understandably distressed, the staff member asked him to leave.

The act, which was recorded and shared online, quickly went viral and was widely condemned. For ISKCON followers, who view food as a sacred offering to Lord Krishna and adhere to strict vegetarian practices, the prank wasn't merely inappropriate-it was deeply offensive. The young man later issued an apology, saying he hadn't understood the religious significance of the place and admitting that his prank was poorly thought out.
In response, ISKCON devotees chose a peaceful and uplifting route. Instead of reacting with anger, they turned to devotion and music. A group of devotees gathered outside a KFC restaurant and began chanting the Hare Krishna mantra, choosing spiritual expression over confrontation.
The moment was captured in a now-viral video shared by Senapati Bhakta on X (formerly Twitter). The caption read:
"They come to our restaurants to harass us, & we come to uplift their consciousness. Hare Kṛṣṇa."
The video shows two devotees standing calmly outside the fast-food outlet, joyfully chanting and smiling, inviting passersby to join them. Surprisingly, some did. A few women joined hands and began dancing inside the restaurant, transforming the mood into a celebration of peace and unity.
For ISKCON devotees, chanting is more than just a religious practice-it's a way to connect, spread joy, and promote compassion. Rather than dwell on the negativity of the prank, they used it as an opportunity to embody their values and turn a disrespectful act into a moment of grace and spiritual sharing.
