VIDEO | Kangana Ranaut Alleges Assault By CISF Officer At Chandigarh Airport: What Happened?

Kangana Ranaut, the Bollywood actor and BJP's MP-elect from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi made a startling allegation concerning her experience at Chandigarh Airport, on Thursday.

As she was preparing to board a flight to Delhi (UK707), Ranaut asserted that she was subjected to physical assault by a CISF security official identified as Kulwinder Kaur.

According to multiple accounts, the incident occurred while she was proceeding towards the boarding area at the airport. Ranaut claims that Kaur, a CISF personnel, allegedly slapped her during this encounter.

Following the alleged slapping incident involving Ranaut, it was reportedly conveyed to the actor-turned-MP by the paramilitary constable that it was done in response to what was perceived as "disrespecting farmers".

This reference was made in connection with the 15-month-long protest by farmers against the (now scrapped) farm laws and other issues, including demands for a legal guarantee of minimum support price in 2020-21.

Upon her arrival in Delhi, Kangana Ranaut met with CISF Director General Nina Singh and other senior officials, where the incident was explained to them. The constable involved, Kulwinder, has been detained and taken to the CISF Commandant Office for questioning.

Kangana was victorious over her Congress rival Vikramaditya Singh, scion of Rampur state and the incumbent state public works minister, by a margin of 74,755 votes in the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency. She became only the fourth woman ever to be elected to Lok Sabha from Himachal Pradesh, and the first woman who is not from an erstwhile royal family.

After landing in Delhi, Ranaut refrained from speaking to reporters. Earlier today, she shared a photo on Instagram with the caption, "En route to parliament. Mandi's MP." During the election campaign, farmers obstructed her convoy in Chandigarh as she was headed towards Mandi.

Kangana's First Reax After Assault

In a video statement on X later this evening, Ranaut said she is safe but is concerned about rising terrorism in Punjab.

"I am safe. I am perfectly fine. The incident happened at the security check-in. The woman guard waited for me to cross. She then came from the side and hit me. She started throwing expletives. I asked why she hit me. She said 'I support farmers'. I am safe, but my concern is terrorism is rising in Punjab. How do we handle that?" Ms Ranaut said.

The CISF constable expressed her upset with Ms. Ranaut over the actor-turned-MP's "Rs 100" statement during the farmers' protest, citing that Ms. Ranaut had given a statement implying that the farmers were protesting for ₹100.

The constable mentioned that her mother was among the protestors when this statement was made. In December 2020, Ranaut posted the "Rs 100" comment on X after observing an elderly woman whom she suggested was "available for ₹100" to attend protests.

Later, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee's chief, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, called for an "unconditional apology" from Ranaut, who subsequently deleted the post. Additionally, during the election campaign, farmers had obstructed her convoy in Chandigarh while she was en route to Mandi.

In February 2021, international pop star Rihanna posted on X (then Twitter) a critique of the Centre over the farmers' protest, prompting a response from Ranaut. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in November 2021, announced the withdrawal of the three farm laws that had sparked fierce protests by farmers nearly 15 months after the protests began.

These laws were a point of contention as farmers feared they would lead to the elimination of MSP and the corporatization of agriculture, leaving small and marginal landholders vulnerable to disadvantageous contracts.
