Uttarakhand Monsoon Mayhem: Cloudbursts in Chamoli and Rudraprayag, Rescue Ops Underway

The monsoon fury has once again battered Uttarakhand, with cloudbursts reported in Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts on Friday. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami confirmed that some families are feared trapped under the debris, and large-scale rescue operations have been launched to save them.

CM Dhami Monitors Relief Efforts

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), CM Dhami said he is in constant touch with local authorities and has directed the disaster secretary and district magistrates to ensure swift and effective rescue operations. "Relief and rescue operations are underway on a war footing," Dhami stated, adding that he is praying to Baba Kedar for the safety of all affected families.

Two People Missing in Chamoli

Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari confirmed that two people are missing following the cloudburst in Dewal. Many animals have been buried under debris, while blocked roads have delayed rescue efforts. Relief teams have now reached the affected sites and are working to restore access.

Uttarakhand Reels Under Heavy Rainfall

Heavy monsoon rains continue to lash the Himalayan state, leading to flash floods, landslides, and multiple cloudburst incidents. Areas like Dharali, Uttarkashi, Tharali, and Pauri have reported loss of lives and widespread destruction in the past week. On Wednesday, CM Dhami personally visited Uttarkashi and announced a relief package for disaster-hit families.

IMD Issues Orange Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar, warning of very heavy rainfall. A yellow alert has also been sounded for Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Pauri Garhwal, Haridwar, Almora, and Nainital, predicting heavy rain across the districts.

With roads blocked, people missing, and continuous downpours, Uttarakhand remains on high alert. Rescue teams are working tirelessly to clear debris and save trapped families. The IMD's warning of more heavy rainfall underlines the urgency of the situation, as the state braces for another spell of monsoon mayhem.
