Statewide Lawyers' Strike Leads to Transfer of UP Police Officials

The Uttar Pradesh police have transferred three officials following a statewide lawyers strike. The Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh had been protesting since August 30 over an alleged lathi-charge incident in Hapur. Talks with the Chief Secretary led to the calling off the strike and subsequent transfer of officials.

The Uttar Pradesh Police, on Friday, ordered the transfer of three officials, including Hapur's additional superintendent of police. This action was taken in response to a statewide lawyers' strike against an alleged lathi-charge incident involving advocates in August. The Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh had called off their statewide strike late Thursday following negotiations with the chief secretary.

Statewide Strike Called Off

Uttar Pradesh Police Transfers

Lawyers across Uttar Pradesh had been on strike since August 30th as a protest against the alleged police lathi-charge incident that took place in Hapur one day prior. The Bar Council's decision to call off the strike came after successful talks with the state's chief secretary. However, despite this resolution at a state level, advocates in Hapur who were demanding for senior police officials' transfer continued their abstention.

Transfers Ordered by Government

In response to these demands and subsequent discussions with lawyer groups, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mukesh Chandra Verma, Circle Officer City Ashok Kumar Sisodhiya and Hapur Nagar SHO Satendra Prakash Singh have been transferred out of the district according to Superintendent of Police Hapur Abhishek Verma. He stated that these transfers were ordered by the government itself.

New Appointments Made

The ASP has been transferred to Bareilly while Sisodhiya has been moved to Saharanpur based on information provided by Lucknow's Police Headquarters. In light of these changes, Rajkumar has been appointed as the new Hapur ASP and Jitendra Kumar Verma will assume duties as the new circle officer.

Hapurs Lawyers Continue Protest

Despite lawyers across Uttar Pradesh resuming work on Friday following cessation of their statewide strike; lawyers from Hapur maintained their protest. Their demands for the transfer of senior police officials being met, they have yet to call off their abstention. "The protest will continue," a representative from the group was quoted as saying.

In conclusion, while the statewide strike by lawyers in Uttar Pradesh has been called off following successful negotiations with the state's chief secretary, advocates in Hapur continue their protests demanding further action against those involved in the alleged lathi-charge incident. The recent transfers of three senior police officials out of Hapur district is seen as a direct response to these demands and indicates that government intervention has taken place. However, it remains to be seen how this situation develops and whether additional measures are needed to fully resolve this issue.
