Historic Police Recruitment: 32 Lakh Compete for UP's 60,000 Posts
Around 32 lakh candidates participated in the Uttar Pradesh Police recruitment exam, which concluded on Saturday. The state government described it as the largest police recruitment exam in its history. The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) conducted the exam at 1,174 centres across 67 districts over five days.

Security Measures and Monitoring
The exam centres were equipped with CCTV cameras monitored by artificial intelligence. Over 2,300 magistrates and more than one lakh police personnel were deployed to ensure security. Additionally, Aadhaar verification was done for all candidates to prevent fraud.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated the candidates, UPPRPB, district administrations, and state police for the smooth conduct of the exam. He posted on X in Hindi, "Hearty congratulations to all the candidates for the fair, transparent and peaceful completion of the written examination-2023 conducted for the selection of more than 60,200 posts of constable civil police."
Logistics and Support
The Uttar Pradesh State Transport Corporation provided free bus services to candidates, including electric buses in several districts. This initiative aimed to ensure that no candidate faced transportation issues during the exam period.
The exams were held in two shifts on August 23, 24, 25, 30, and 31. The fresh recruitment exercise was necessitated after allegations of a paper leak led to the cancellation of exams scheduled for February 17 and 18.
Ensuring Fairness and Transparency
The state government took unprecedented measures to uphold transparency and integrity. The exams were held exclusively in government schools to ensure fairness. Data analysis played a crucial role in maintaining the exams' integrity. Candidate data was matched within half an hour of each shift's start, with discrepancies leading to immediate action.
"May all the energetic and disciplined youth taking part in the exam get the desired results and may everyone have a bright future; infinite good wishes for this!" Adityanath added.
Extensive Security Deployment
The security apparatus included deploying 1,97,859 policemen, including 25 companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and eight companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). Additionally, 137 additional superintendents of police and 522 deputy superintendents of police were assigned.
To further bolster security, 74 observer police officers were stationed at examination centres. Rigorous procedures for candidate verification included physical frisking, security checks with Hand-Held Metal Detectors (HHMD), and biometric verification through fingerprint and facial recognition.
The official statement highlighted that stringent surveillance measures kept cheaters and solver gangs at bay. Intelligence agencies monitored various platforms like WhatsApp and social media around the clock to pre-empt potential issues.
In addition to surveillance, Aadhaar verification was conducted before the exam. While 85 per cent of candidates' Aadhaar details were confirmed, the remaining underwent eKYC verification at exam centres. This deterred those with fraudulent intentions.
The chief minister noted that more than 15,000 women would be recruited among the over 60,000 police constables selected. He emphasised that this fair and smooth examination process would enrich Uttar Pradesh's model of security and good governance.
The extensive measures taken ensured minimal cheating incidents. Individuals attempting to game the system were arrested, reinforcing the examination's integrity.
Every necessary measure was taken to prevent inconvenience to candidates. The thorough approach not only minimised cheating but also ensured a transparent recruitment process.
The successful completion of this large-scale recruitment exercise marks a significant achievement for Uttar Pradesh's administration.
