Use of army in Operation Blue Star created mistrust: Ex-Punjab DGP

Retired army officers reacted immediately saying the army had to take over the operation as the police had failed to ensure peace.
Operation Blue Star, amajor military operation, was carried out in 1984. It aimed to clear the Golden temple complex in Amritsar of Sikh militants, who had camped inside the temple.
Gill also slammed use of army in anti-insurgency operations in North-east. Use of army created mistrust between government and the civilians. Gill said. As a result many innocent people lost their lives, he said.
