Union Cabinet Approves 2% Dearness Allowance Hike for Central Government Employees

The Union Cabinet has greenlit a 2% rise in Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees.

This adjustment will see DA climb from 53% to 55%, providing a welcome pay boost for employees. The previous DA hike occurred in July 2024, when it increased from 50% to 53%.

Dearness Allowance (DA) is a benefit provided to government staff to offset the impact of rising inflation.

Take a Poll

It aims to preserve the purchasing power of salaries amid escalating living costs.

While the Pay Commission sets basic salaries every decade, DA is tweaked periodically to reflect inflation trends.

Who Benefits from the DA Increase?

This DA rise will support central government employees, pensioners, and family pensioners.

Earlier reports suggested that the central government was poised to unveil a DA and Dearness Relief (DR) increase ahead of Holi.

Various media outlets had predicted a 2% uplift, set to benefit both employees and pensioners alike.

The DA boost is designed to ease inflationary pressures, bolstering monthly earnings and offering financial security and respite.

How Is DA Calculated?

DA rates are calculated using data from the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW). The government reviews the figures from the previous six months before finalising any changes.

Nonetheless, the DA hike will only be officially confirmed following a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Employees and pensioners can anticipate further details shortly.
