Undertrial Prisoner Shyamveer Takes His Life in Bareilly Jail Amid Legal Struggles

A 42-year-old inmate at Bareilly's Central Jail 2 took his own life on Saturday afternoon, according to police reports. The prisoner, identified as Shyamveer, was involved in a legal case following an altercation with a villager named Prashant in June. Shyamveer was arrested and detained on July 1 after Prashant's family accused him of assault.

Suicide of Undertrial Prisoner in Bareilly Jail

Shyamveer hailed from Gurgaon village in the Sirauli police station area of Bareilly. His case was still pending in court when he died. On Saturday at 3 pm, his wife Pushpa received a call informing her of his suicide. Family members rushed to the jail upon hearing the news.

Details Surrounding the Incident

The jailor, Ratan Kumar, revealed that Shyamveer's bail application was denied by the high court on October 20. This decision left him visibly stressed, according to Kumar. Following this rejection, Shyamveer's wife visited him in jail. The jailor noted that Shyamveer appeared tense after learning he would not be granted bail.

On the day of the incident, Shyamveer used the string from his shorts to hang himself from a nail in the toilet. His body has been sent for a post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigation into his death.

Legal Proceedings and Family Reactions

The legal proceedings against Shyamveer stemmed from a complaint lodged by Prashant's family at the Sirauli police station. They accused him of causing physical harm during their altercation. As a result, Shyamveer was detained at Bareilly's Central Jail 2, previously known as district jail Bareilly.

Upon receiving news of Shyamveer's death, his family promptly arrived at the jail. The authorities have assured that they are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his suicide.

The incident highlights the mental strain faced by inmates awaiting trial, especially when bail is denied. The authorities are expected to look into these aspects as part of their investigation.
