Umar Khalid and four others want to surrender in High Court
New Delhi, Feb 23: The five students facing sedition charges in the JNU row incident have requested that they be allowed to surrender before the Delhi High Court.
The five students including Umar Khalid who is alleged to be the organiser of the Afzal Guru event at the JNU have expressed that they be allowed to surrender in the High Court under protection.

The Delhi police or the court will have to consider this request. The students who had submitted a memorandum to the JNU Vice Chancellor had earlier said that they want the sedition charges to be dropped before they could surrender.
With the Delhi police showing no signs of dropping any of the charges, the students feel that it would be safer for them to surrender before the High Court.
The Delhi police is stationed outside the university.
The cops have made a deliberate attempt not to enter the university campus this time. The last time they entered and arrested JNU student leader Kanaihya Kumar they had come in for a lot of criticism. Hence this time around the VC has become the mediator between the Delhi police and the students.
