UGC NET 2024 Exam postponed Due To Makar Sankranti, Pongal - Check New Date Here
Due to the celebrations of Makar Sankranti and Pongal, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has postponed the UGC-National Eligibility Test (NET) initially scheduled for January 15. This decision, announced on January 13, affects tests covering 17 subjects such as mass communication and journalism, Sanskrit, and environmental science among others. Rajesh Kumar, Director (Exams) at NTA, stated, "The NTA has received representations to postpone the exam on January 15 on account of festivals, including Pongal and Makar Sakranti. In the interest of the aspirants, the exam has been postponed and a new date will be announced later." However, the exams slated for January 16 will proceed as planned.
The UGC NET 2024 is a critical assessment for individuals aspiring to secure positions as assistant professors or to qualify for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in their respective fields. This year, the evaluation spans from January 3 to January 16, covering a broad spectrum of 85 subjects. The exams are conducted in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format, with two three-hour shifts each day. The morning shift runs from 9 am to 12 pm and the afternoon session from 3 pm to 6 pm. Each candidate must navigate through two papers comprising 150 multiple-choice questions in total, aiming for a perfect score out of 300 marks. Achieving success requires a thorough understanding of the updated UGC NET 2024 syllabus, emphasizing the importance of diligent study and preparation.

The necessity of rescheduling the UGC-NET is not unprecedented, as a similar postponement occurred last year following concerns over the exam's integrity posed by the education ministry. Such adjustments underscore the importance of flexibility and resilience among candidates in their exam preparation journey.
The UGC NET 2024 serves as a gateway for individuals aiming to contribute to academia either through research or teaching. This exam, overseen by the National Testing Agency, is essential for those aiming to qualify as "Assistant Professors" or secure the "Junior Research Fellowship" (JRF) in one of 83 subjects. The structure of the exam is designed to test the candidates' knowledge and aptitude thoroughly, with a focus on multiple-choice questions spread across two papers, completed in a single session. The scoring system is straightforward, with each correct answer awarded 2 marks, and no penalty for incorrect answers, making every question an opportunity to edge closer to the goal.
As aspirants navigate their preparation, the abrupt change in the exam schedule due to significant cultural festivals reminds candidates of the unpredictable nature of academic planning. Yet, it also highlights the NTA's responsiveness to cultural observances and its commitment to accommodating the diverse backgrounds of its candidates. With a new date for the postponed exam to be announced, candidates are afforded additional time to prepare, potentially turning this delay into an opportunity for better preparation.
The postponement of the UGC NET 2024 exam on January 15 reflects the balance between academic scheduling and cultural observance. As the National Testing Agency sets a new date, candidates have the chance to further their preparation, underscoring the importance of adaptability and thorough understanding of the syllabus in achieving success.
