JEE Mains 2025 Update: NTA Drops Section B Options, Dates Expected Soon
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released an important notice regarding the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains 2025. According to the announcement, NTA has decided to discontinue the optional questions in Section B of the exam. These optional questions were first introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic as a temporary measure to provide flexibility for students.
Previously, candidates could select five questions to answer out of a total of 10 in Section B. However, this option will no longer be available, and candidates will be required to attempt all the questions in this section.

The official notification from NTA stated, "Since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency on 5 May 2023, it has been decided to discontinue the optional selection of questions. The modification was introduced as a temporary measure during the pandemic and has been in effect until the year 2024 for the JEE Main examination."
The new changes specify that Section B will now contain only five questions per subject, and candidates will have to attempt all of them without any option for selection. This applies to Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech), Paper 2A (B. Arch), and Paper 2B (B. Planning) for the JEE Main 2025 examination. Further details about the examination pattern will be available in the JEE Main 2025 information bulletin, which candidates are advised to check for clarity.
