To fight Jaya DA case, B V Acharya was paid Rs 1,06,86,018

The case against Jayalalithaa stood abated in the wake of her death which has promoted a review by Karnataka

Rs 1,06,86,018 was the amount paid to senior advocate B V Acharya who fought the Jayalalithaa disproportionate assets case for the state of Karnataka. Senior advocate Dushyant Dave who represented Karnataka in the Supreme Court was paid Rs 95,16,500. The information was revealed to a Right to Information activist, T Narasimhamurthy, by the advocate general's office in Karnataka.

The information revealed Karnataka bore an expenditure of Rs 2.78 crore while fighting the DA case. The SC had confirmed the trial court's order which had convicted Jayalalithaa, Sasikala Natarajan and two others. However, the case against Jaya stood abated in the event of her death.

The SC is set to hear a review by Karnataka against the order of abatement later on Wednesday.

The information also revealed that advocates Joseph Aristotle and Sandesh Chowta were paid Rs 32.01 lakh and Rs 42.2 lakh respectively. An amount of Rs 2.43 lakh was paid to advocate general of Karnataka, Madhusudan R Naik.

Karnataka will claim this bill from Tamil Nadu. As per the Supreme Court order, Tamil Nadu would have to foot the bill. Karnataka was directed to conduct the trial in the case after it was found that fair proceedings may not be held in Tamil Nadu owing to the power of the person involved.
