TN Govt Launches ‘Beach Wedding’ Scheme With Private Beach, Resort Stay & Financial Aid, Check How To Book

If you are planning a destination for your wedding then a beach is something that no one will deny of. However, here's the twist; the Tamil Nadu government has introduced a new "Beach Wedding" initiative aimed at making destination weddings more affordable for ordinary families.

The scheme has been launched through the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) and is designed to allow couples to host weddings in scenic seaside locations without the high costs usually associated with private resorts.

The initiative offers government-managed beach venues, affordable catering, and accommodation options, making it easier for families to organise weddings in beautiful coastal settings.

Affordable Destination Weddings for Everyone

Destination weddings at beach resorts are usually expensive, often costing lakhs of rupees. With this new initiative, the state government hopes to make such experiences accessible to more people.

The scheme allows families to book government-run beach resorts at much lower prices while enjoying the natural beauty of the coastline.

Officials say the main goal is to provide a memorable wedding experience at an affordable cost, especially for middle-class families who cannot afford private luxury venues.

Beach Weddings at Mamallapuram Resort

The first location under the scheme is the Hotel Tamil Nadu Beach Resort in Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram).

The resort has a private beach area, which can now be used for wedding ceremonies and celebrations.

The venue offers a scenic backdrop of the sea, making it an attractive option for couples who want a unique wedding location without spending heavily.

Booking Charges and Costs

Under the "Beach Wedding" scheme, the costs are kept relatively affordable compared to private beach resorts.

Key charges include:

• Venue booking fee: Around ₹10,000 for maintenance of the beach area
• Vegetarian catering: Starting from about ₹700 per person
• Non-vegetarian catering: Starting from about ₹1,100 per person
• Accommodation: Rooms available for around ₹5,000 for a 22-hour stay

These rates are expected to make seaside weddings accessible to a wider range of families.

Families Can Customize Decorations

While the government provides the venue and catering services, families are responsible for arranging their own:

• Stage setup
• Decorative elements
• Lighting arrangements

This flexibility allows couples to design their wedding celebrations according to their preferences while still benefiting from the affordable venue.

Plans to Upgrade Beaches to International Standards

To support the new initiative and promote tourism, the Tamil Nadu government is also working to improve several beaches across the state.

Authorities plan to upgrade selected beaches to Blue Flag international standards, which represent high-quality environmental management and facilities.

Some of the beaches being upgraded include:

• Marina Beach
• Kovalam Beach
• Coastal areas in Nagapattinam
• Beaches in Ramanathapuram

These upgrades are expected to improve tourism infrastructure and support events like beach weddings.

Financial Assistance for Marriage in Tamil Nadu

Apart from venue support, the Tamil Nadu government already runs several marriage assistance schemes for families with lower incomes.

One of the key programmes is the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Marriage Assistance Scheme, which offers financial aid for the marriage of daughters from eligible families.

Under the scheme:

• Families can receive financial assistance of up to ₹50,000
• Eligible beneficiaries may also receive 8 grams of gold for the Thirumangalyam (mangalsutra)

These programmes aim to reduce financial stress on families during wedding ceremonies.

Boost for Tourism and Local Economy

Officials believe the beach wedding initiative will not only help families but also boost tourism and local businesses.

Events such as weddings bring visitors, increase hotel bookings, and generate demand for catering, decoration, and event services.
