TMC Election Manifesto: Mamata Banerjee's 10 Promises Include Welfare Measures, Repeal Of CAA, NRC

The TMC on Wednesday released its manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The first phase of the seven-phase elections will begin on April 19.

In its manifesto, the TMC has promised several social welfare measures and repeal of the CAA if the opposition INDIA bloc comes to power at the Centre.

What s In TMC Manifesto

Talking about the manifesto, TMC's Rajya Sabha party leader Derek O'Brien said, "These are the promises which we will fulfill as part of INDIA bloc, when it forms the next government."

The party has made several promises to voters that include providing ration at the doorstep and 10 free cooking cylinders for BPL families.

Senior TMC leader Amit Mitra added, "We promise to control petrol and diesel prices through the formulation of a price stabilisation fund. We also promise to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and stop the National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise in the country,"

West Bengal has 42 seats and the TMC had won 22 seats in the last Lok Sabha elections while the BJP won 18 with the Congress winning 2 seats. The opinion polls have indicated that there is a neck and neck fight between the TMC and the BJP.

Check out the top 10 promises made by the TMC in its manifesto:

  1. Enhanced income opportunities for laborers with a guaranteed 100-day work provision for job card holders, offering a daily wage of Rs 400.
  2. Free housing initiatives for all poor families.
  3. Provision of 10 gas cylinders annually to Below Poverty Line (BPL) households, free of charge.
  4. Doorstep delivery of ration to all ration card holders.
  5. Higher allowances for higher education among Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST), along with an old-age allowance of Rs 1,000.
  6. Implementation of the recommendations laid out by the Swaminathan Commission.
  7. Establishment of a price stabilisation fund for petroleum products.
  8. Apprenticeship programs for graduates and diploma holders under 25 years of age.
  9. Repeal of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and cessation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) implementation. No support for the Uniform Civil Code.
  10. Nationwide welfare schemes akin to Kanyashree, specifically benefiting girls.
