Tirupati Temple Board's Action Against 18 Non Hindus; Here's Why

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has taken disciplinary measures against 18 employees for not adhering to Hindu religious practices during temple festivals and rituals. This action was directed by TTD Chairman BR Naidu, as stated in a recent announcement.

According to the statement, "Following the directions of TTD Chairman BR Naidu, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has initiated action against employees adhering to non-Hindu religious practices while working in the institution." The statement further added that orders have been issued for disciplinary action against these employees who are participating in non-Hindu religious activities while also taking part in TTD festivals and rituals.

Transfer or Voluntary Retirement

To uphold the spiritual integrity of its operations, TTD's Board has proposed transferring these employees to other government departments or offering them voluntary retirement. The statement mentioned, "The TTD Board has recently resolved to either transfer such employees to government departments or facilitate their exit through the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS). This decision aligns with TTD's commitment to preserving the spiritual sanctity of its temples and religious activities."

In November 2024, the board passed a resolution requiring non-Hindus employed by TTD to either take voluntary retirement or transfer to other government departments within Andhra Pradesh. This move is part of ongoing efforts to maintain the religious purity of temple operations.

Resolution Against Political Statements

The board has also adopted a resolution banning political statements within Tirumala. Legal action will be taken against those who make or spread such statements. This measure aims to keep the focus on religious activities without political interference.

TTD oversees 12 temples and sub-shrines and employs over 14,000 people. The organisation is committed to ensuring that all staff members respect and follow Hindu traditions during their tenure at these sacred sites.

Chairman BR Naidu expressed his intentions regarding non-Hindu staff members: "I moved the resolution in the Board yesterday. The Board has unanimously accepted. We have identified some people (staff at TTD), non-Hindus...I wanted to meet those people personally and I would request them to take VRS. If they are not interested, we will transfer or maybe grant deputation to other government departments, like Revenue or Municipality or any Corporation. So, that is our intention."
