Three Students Sustain Injuries in Gurukul Fire Incident in Rajasthan's Bundi District
A fire incident at a gurukul in Bundi district, Rajasthan, left three students injured, with one suffering severe burns. The fire broke out on Wednesday in Talawas village, reportedly due to sparks from neem leaves used as a mosquito repellent. Shankar Lal, DSP of Nainwan circle, stated that an investigation into the safety protocols at the gurukul will be conducted.

On Thursday morning, Shankar Lal visited MBS Hospital in Kota to assess the medical treatment provided to the injured boys. He also questioned members of the Gurukul Committee about the incident. The police are committed to examining the circumstances and ensuring appropriate measures are taken to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Fire Details and Injuries
According to Dei Station House Officer Babulal, the fire started when students burned dry neem leaves in a corner of the hall where they were sleeping on foam mattresses. Air from a fan and cooler spread sparks from the ash onto the mattresses, igniting the fire. The incident highlights potential safety hazards in using traditional methods for mosquito control indoors.
The injured students were identified as Ritesh Sharma, Shivshankar Sharma, and Abhijeet Sharma. Ritesh, aged 13, sustained 90 per cent burns and was later transferred to SMS Hospital in Jaipur due to his critical condition. The other two boys suffered 60 per cent burns and are receiving treatment at MBS Hospital in Kota.
Response and Rescue Efforts
Suresh Sharma, a teacher at the gurukul, mentioned that he had conducted a class for 14 children until 10:30 pm on Wednesday. Afterward, ten boys slept inside the hall with a fan and cooler running while four others slept outside. Upon hearing screams, Suresh rushed to rescue them but found three already injured by the fire.
The incident has raised concerns about safety practices within educational institutions. Authorities are urged to review and enhance safety measures to protect students from similar risks in the future.
The police investigation will focus on understanding how such an accident occurred and what preventive steps can be implemented. Ensuring student safety remains a priority for both law enforcement and educational authorities.
