First Ever Hindi Publication of The Lancet's Southeast Asian Edition Announced
'The Lancet', one of the world's most prestigious medical journals, will publish its 'Regional Health - Southeast Asia' edition in Hindi for the first time. This move is aimed at making scientific research more accessible and inclusive.
The Southeast Asian edition of the internationally renowned English medical journal, The Lancet, will be published in Hindi for the first time. This significant announcement was made on Thursday and coincided with Hindi Diwas. It represents a crucial step forward in making scientific research more accessible and inclusive.
A Landmark Event

Madhya Pradesh Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang revealed that The Lancet Regional Health - Southeast Asia would be translated into Hindi in collaboration with experts from the Bhopal-based Gandhi Medical College (GMC) and MP directorate of medical education (MP-DME). The translation will be published bi-monthly. This initiative marks a milestone as it is the first time any publication by The Lancet is being brought out in Hindi.
Bridging Language Barriers
This development comes as part of efforts by Madhya Pradesh's BJP government to promote Hindi in medical education for students who are not comfortable with English. Minister Sarang described this move as a landmark event that aims at promoting inclusivity within the field of medicine.
The Lancet’s Commitment to Accessibility
Fiona Macnab, The Lancet's deputy publishing director, expressed her enthusiasm about this new venture during an interaction with reporters at GMC. She emphasized how important it is to make science and content more accessible to researchers and students who may face language barriers. Currently, besides English, The Lancet publications are also available in Spanish and Portuguese.
Promoting Inclusivity through Translation
The decision to translate one of the world’s leading health journals into Hindi underlines a commitment towards ensuring knowledge accessibility across linguistic boundaries. By doing so, they aim to foster greater inclusivity within scientific communities by enabling those uncomfortable with English to access high-quality research material without difficulty.
The Lancet’s Milestone
The British peer-reviewed general medical journal is in its 200th year of publication. This move to publish a Hindi edition signifies not just a milestone for The Lancet, but also marks an important step towards language inclusivity in the global scientific community.
In conclusion, the decision by The Lancet to publish its Southeast Asian edition in Hindi represents a significant stride towards promoting linguistic diversity and inclusivity within the field of medical education and research. This initiative will benefit researchers and students who are more comfortable with Hindi, thereby making scientific knowledge more accessible. It serves as a testament to the commitment of both The Lancet and Madhya Pradesh's BJP government towards fostering inclusivity within scientific communities through language accessibility.
