New Delhi, Sept 15: The killing of two naxals- a man and a woman at Telangana suggests that the members of the Khammam-Karimnagar- Warangal Division Committee are active in the region.

There was an intelligence tip off based on which the security forces following an encounter with the naxals shot down two of their cadres.

Naxal encounter: What does it signify?

The encounter took place at 7.30 AM and preliminary investigations show that they were members of the Khammam- Karimnagar- Warangal divisional committee. The police are continuing with search operations to find if any more of the cadres are still holed up.

Return of the naxals:

Three months back a people's court was conducted in the Karimnagar district. Investigations suggested that it was the naxals who were part of the Khammam-Karimnagar- Warangal Division Committee which conducted this court.

These areas have not seen any naxal movement for long. However in the year 2013 there was an intelligence alert sounded which suggested that most of the naxals from Chattisgarh and Odisha would return to Telangana. The Telangana police have been on the watch as plenty of intelligence suggested that the naxals are attempting a come back.

In the month of June 2015 when security forces were combing the forests in the Warrangal district it was found that many naxals had crossed over from Odisha in a bid to re-establish their movement.

The incident of 2013:

In the year 2013 there was a fierce encounter that took place in the Sukma forests of Chattisgarh between the security forces and the naxals.

Investigations which were conducted post that operation revealed that a dedicated base had been set up by the Khammam-Karimnagar- Warangal Division Committee in a bid to return to Telangana.

It was also found that the naxals had set up this committee in the year 2011 itself and were running a camp in the Sukma forests.

Investigations that were led by the Grey Hounds of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh state revealed that the camps were being organized only with an intention of setting up strong bases in the areas of Telangana.

Further it was also revealed that the naxals were attempting to enter into the Dandakaranya forests in the northern Telangana districts of Khammam, Karimnagar and Warangal by crossing the Chhattisgarh border.

They were planning on moving into Telangana under the guise of tribals and investigations also found that they had built up a strong force of at least 150 cadres.
