Techie thrashed for stopping child marriage in Noida

, Sept 21: She stood up for a cause and got bruises, cuts and ended up in a hospital. This was the fate of a 29-year-old software engineer, who tried to stop a woman from forcibly getting her daughter married to a man ten years elder to her.

The victim, Linkan Subuddhi, who is also a volunteer with an NGO is now admitted with serious injuries that she sustained after being attacked by a knife and bricks, by the prospective groom and the mother.

Police said that the incident took place on Thursday when the victim reached the 15-year-old girl's house after getting a call for help. Liknan has been teaching the girl for the past one year and had managed to avoid a similar situation earlier.

The girl was allegedly forced to marry off her cousin. Since she opposed the marriage and wanted to continue her studies she called Linkan on Wednesday to persuade her mother to give up on the marriage.

However when, Linkan reached the girl's house on Thursday, the girl's mother and the groom attacked her following which she lost consciousness.

Both the groom and the girl's mother are in police custody.
