Collegium Proposes Two High Court Judges For Supreme Court Elevation
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended two senior high court judges for elevation to the apex court. Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Justice, Justice N Kotiswar Singh, and Madras High Court Judge, Justice R Mahvan, have been proposed for appointment as Supreme Court judges.

Justice R Mahadevan's Background
Justice R Mahadevan was born on June 10, 1963. He completed his law degree at Madras Law College. With a career spanning over 25 years, he specialised in indirect taxes, customs, and Central Excise matters. He served as an Additional Government Pleader (Taxes) for Tamil Nadu and held various positions representing the Government of India at Madras High Court before becoming a judge there in 2013.
The Supreme Court Collegium is led by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud. Recently, this panel also recommended three additional judges from the Delhi High Court for permanent positions.
Justice N Kotiswar Singh's Career
Justice N Kotiswar Singh began his legal practice at the Gauhati High Court. In March 2008, he became a senior advocate there. By October 2011, he was elevated to an additional judge position at the same court.
Justice R Mahadevan currently serves as the acting chief justice of the Madras High Court. His extensive experience includes practising civil, criminal, and writ fields before his judicial appointment.
The recommendations by the Collegium are part of ongoing efforts to fill vacancies in the Supreme Court with experienced judges from high courts across India.
The Collegium's decision underscores its commitment to maintaining a robust judiciary by appointing seasoned legal professionals to higher positions within India's judicial system.
