Student Suicide in Bhadohi Linked to Alleged Sexual Harassment and Stalking Incident

A 21-year-old student in Bhadohi district died by suicide after facing severe harassment from a local man. The accused has been charged, and police are actively seeking his arrest.

A 21-year-old student in Bhadohi district reportedly took her own life after enduring harassment from a man who sent obscene messages and made sexual advances, police reported on Sunday. The harassment, which included stalking, forced her to leave school, leading to her suicide on July 11, as per the FIR filed on Saturday.

According to the victim's mother, Vipul Dubey, aged 25 and from the same village, allegedly stalked her daughter. He sent inappropriate messages from various phone numbers and even entered their home to make unwanted advances. He threatened her with severe consequences if she resisted.

Police Investigation and Charges

Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik ordered charges against Dubey under sections 108 for abetment of suicide and 3513 for issuing threats to kill of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Despite these charges, Dubey remains at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him, according to Aurai police station in-charge Ram Sarikh Gautam.

The victim's mother claimed that despite submitting a written complaint at the local police station on July 13, no action was initially taken. It was only after she approached the Superintendent of Police on Saturday that the case was officially registered.

Community Reaction and Legal Proceedings

The community has been shocked by the incident, highlighting concerns about women's safety in the area. The case has sparked discussions about the need for stricter enforcement of laws against harassment and better protection for victims.

Authorities are under pressure to locate Dubey and bring him to justice. The case underscores the importance of timely police intervention in harassment cases to prevent such tragedies.

The victim's family is seeking justice for their daughter, hoping that legal proceedings will ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future.
