SP, Congress Join Hands for Lok Sabha Battle in UP, MP

The Samajwadi Party and the Congress have forged an alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The SP will leave 17 seats in UP for the Congress, while in Madhya Pradesh, the SP will contest only one seat and support the Congress in the remaining constituencies.

In a significant development, the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress party, key partners of the INDIA bloc, have announced a tie-up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. This alliance marks a strategic move to challenge the dominance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in both states.

SP-Congress Unite to Take on BJP in Lok Sabha Polls

Seat-Sharing Arrangement in Uttar Pradesh

In Uttar Pradesh, the main opposition party, SP, has generously allocated 17 out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats to its ally, the Congress. This includes prominent constituencies such as Raebareli and Amethi, which were once considered strongholds of the Congress, as well as Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Congress will also contest in Kanpur City, Fatehpur Sekri, Basgaon, Saharanpur, Prayagraj, Maharajganj, Amroha, Jhansi, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Mathura, Sitapur, Barabanki, and Deoria. Notably, Sonia Gandhi currently represents Raebareli, while Rahul Gandhi lost his Amethi seat to BJP leader Smriti Irani in the 2019 elections.

SP's Support for Congress in Madhya Pradesh

In Madhya Pradesh, which has 29 Lok Sabha seats, the SP will contest only one seat, Khajuraho, and extend its support to the Congress in the remaining constituencies. This strategic move aims to consolidate the opposition vote and maximize their chances of defeating the BJP.

Future Plans and Alliance Dynamics

Senior leaders from both parties will collaborate to outline future programs and activities for the alliance. SP state chief Naresh Uttam Patel expressed hope that party president Akhilesh Yadav may join the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on February 24 or 25, subject to his convenience.

Congress leader Avinash Pande acknowledged the crucial role played by party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in finalizing the alliance. He commended her efforts to unite opposition parties and defeat the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing Concerns and Seat Allocations

In response to queries about the list of Congress candidates, Pande assured that the party leadership would release it soon after internal discussions. Regarding the candidates for Raebareli and Amethi, he emphasized the significance of these seats to the Gandhi family and stated that no decision had been made yet.

Pande dismissed any lingering issues on the Shravasti and Kheri seats, asserting that all seats had been finalized. He assured that any developments or changes would be communicated to the media during subsequent meetings.

SP Chief's Vision and Call for Unity

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed confidence that the PDA (an acronym coined by Yadav for backwards, dalits, and minorities) alliance would emerge victorious against the BJP-led NDA in the upcoming polls. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding the Constitution, implementing socialist values, and ensuring the rights of the marginalized sections of society.

Yadav urged for unity and collective action to defeat the BJP and bring about progressive change in the country. He used the hashtags #PDA_haraega_NDA (PDA will defeat NDA) and #assi_harao_BJP_hatao (defeat on 80, remove BJP) to convey his message on social media.

The SP-Congress alliance in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh marks a significant step towards consolidating opposition forces and challenging the BJP's dominance in these key states. With strategic seat-sharing arrangements and a shared commitment to defeating the ruling party, this alliance has the potential to reshape the political landscape in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
