Sonia Gandhi Takes Aim At Modi: Calls For Accountability Amid Election Setback

During her address at the extended CWC meeting, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi took a pointed jab at Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi concerning his impending third-term swearing-in as PM.

Sonia Gandhi highlighted that Modi had effectively lost the mandate he had sought and criticized him for evading "responsibility for failure."

Sonia Gandhi Takes Aim At Modi - What She Said?

Sonia Gandhi articulated, "The Prime Minister who sought the mandate solely in his name to the exclusion of both his party and its allies has suffered a political and worse, a moral defeat." She emphasized that Mr. Modi had essentially lost the mandate he sought and, consequently, forfeited the right to leadership.

Despite this setback, Sonia Gandhi noted, Mr. Modi intended to proceed with his swearing-in ceremony again, instead of acknowledging his failure. She expressed scepticism regarding any anticipation of a change in the substance and style of his governance or his responsiveness to the will of the people.

Regarding Modi's upcoming oath-taking ceremony, Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay remarked that while he may be assuming office as Prime Minister for a third term, his mandate did not compare to that of Jawaharlal Nehru, the only other PM to have enjoyed three consecutive terms.

Bandyopadhyay, who was re-elected as the leader of the TMC in Lok Sabha, also mentioned that the Opposition would adopt a positive role in the proceedings of Parliament. He observed that while some individuals had expressed favourable opinions toward PM Modi, it did not parallel the widespread endorsement Nehru had received.

Overall, Sonia Gandhi's critique of Modi's leadership approach and Bandyopadhyay's comparative analysis underscored the nuanced perspectives surrounding the upcoming leadership transition and the expectations from the newly formed government.
