Siddaramaiah's son Rakesh passes away in Belgium

Bengaluru, July 30: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah's son Rakesh (38) succumbed to multiple organ failure in Belgium. He was admitted to the Antwerp University Hospital.

As soon the news of Rakesh falling ill was learnt by the family, CM's wife with a doctor rushed to Belgium. Rakesh had visited Belgium to attend a music festival, said a source close Siddaramaiah to OneIndia.

Rakesh was being treated at Antwerp University Hospital. He was ailing from acute pancreatitis. He was under observation since two days. However, it is said that Rakesh did not respond to the treatment and suffered from multiple organ failure.

Siddaramaiah who left India from Bengaluru International Airport on Friday was received by Manjeev Singh Puri, the Indian Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and European Union at Brussels airport. He visited his son and now he is currently in Belgium.

It is learnt that the CM had earlier called on Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj for help on learning his son's illness while on tour in Belgium.

When CM reached Belgium hope of his son recuperating was less. He was already on the ventilator when the CM reached Belgium. The CM is likely to return to Karnataka by Sunday, July 31. His last rites will be conducted at the CM's home town in Mysuru.
