SC to hear plea for quashing of FIR against Major Aditya on Feb 12

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud considered advocate Aishwarya Bhati's submission that the plea be heard on an urgent basis and fixed the case for hearing on February 12.

In the plea, filed yesterday through Bhati, Singh said that the authorities were aware that the Major "was not there," but "in an arbitrary exercise of power, named my son as an accused."

The Jammu-Kashmir Police had lodged an FIR under Section 302 (murder charge) against the Army personnel of the unit and include a Major rank officer. The petition filed in the apex court seeks the quashing of the FIR.

The firing incident in Shopian district, Jammu and Kashmir, left two persons dead and nine injured.

The case was registered under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder), the officials said.

Two youth were killed and nine others injured allegedly in Army firing at Ganovpora in Shopian when a stone-pelting mob targeted a convoy. The Mehbooba Mufti-led state government had also ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.
