The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert indicating widespread heavy rainfall across South Peninsular and Central India from October 14 to October 18.

Regions particularly affected include Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karnataka, Kerala, and parts of Maharashtra, Goa, and Gujarat.

Heavy Rainfall in Southern India (October 14-18)

South Peninsular India is set for significant rainfall activity throughout the week. Here are the key forecast details:

Rainfall Distribution:

• Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Karnataka, Rayalaseema: Fairly widespread, light to moderate rainfall is expected throughout the week.

• Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal: Light to moderate rain is anticipated over the next four days.

• Interior Karnataka: Scattered rainfall is forecast for the next three days.

• Telangana: Isolated light to moderate rainfall is predicted throughout the week.

Heavy Rainfall Alerts:

1. Extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on October 15-16, and in South Interior Karnataka on October 17.
2. Very heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, South Interior Karnataka, and Rayalaseema from October 14-17, and over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam between October 14-16.
3. Coastal Karnataka is expected to experience heavy rainfall on October 17, while Lakshadweep is likely to see heavy rain on October 17-18.

Western & Central India Weather Update

Significant rainfall is also expected in parts of West and Central India, particularly in Konkan & Goa and Gujarat.

Rainfall Distribution:

• Konkan & Goa, Gujarat: Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over the next two days, with isolated rainfall continuing for five more days.
• Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh: Isolated light to moderate rainfall is forecasted throughout the week.

Heavy Rainfall Alerts:

• Konkan & Goa: Heavy rain is anticipated on October 14-15.
• Gujarat State: Heavy rainfall is expected on October 14.
• Madhya Maharashtra: Heavy rain is forecast for October 15.

Northeast, Northwest, and East India Weather

A dry spell is expected in Northeast, Northwest, and East India for the upcoming week, with no significant rainfall forecasted, providing a period of calm in these regions.
