The article is one of the most controversial one in Indian constitution.

In July 2009, a landmark judgement by the Delhi High Court ruled that it was no longer a criminal offence for homosexual adults to be together. A huge debate and controversy followed and a plea was filed seeking overturning of the verdict. The Delhi HC verdict was based on the foriegn court rulings.

Article 377 is against right to life and liberty guaranteed under the constitution, agrues activists.
