Saudi Arabia Accident: List Of Indians Killed In The Incident Near Medina

A catastrophic road accident near Madinah has claimed the lives of at least 42 Indian nationals, most of whom were returning from the Umrah pilgrimage. The incident occurred when a bus carrying 43 passengers collided with a diesel tanker in the early hours of Monday near Mufrihat, approximately 160 kilometers from Madinah.

According to preliminary reports, the bus burst into flames following the collision, leaving only one survivor. The victims are believed to be predominantly from Hyderabad, with Telangana Information Technology Minister D. Sridhar Babu confirming that at least 16 of the deceased hailed from the Bazarghat area of Mallepalli.

The group had departed Hyderabad on November 9 and was en route back to Madinah after offering prayers in Mecca. Travel arrangements were reportedly made through Al Meena and Al Mecca Travels, based in Nampally.

Several victims were reportedly members of extended families and small local groups performing Umrah together.

Back in India, senior officials have initiated emergency protocols. The Telangana government is coordinating with the Consulate General of India in Jeddah and the Deputy Ambassador in Riyadh to verify identities and assess the number of state residents affected. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has instructed the Resident Commissioner and Coordination Secretary in New Delhi to maintain continuous contact with Saudi authorities and facilitate support for grieving families, including repatriation of remains.

The Indian Embassy in Jeddah has activated a 24x7 control room to assist families. The helpline number is 8002440003.

A consolidated statement from the MEA is expected once confirmations are received from Saudi officials. Meanwhile, families across India await updates with growing concern as the scale of the tragedy unfolds.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has expressed shock over the tragedy and said that the Indian government is giving full support to the families affected by the accident.

"Deeply shocked at the accident involving Indian nationals in Medina, Saudi Arabia. Our Embassy in Riyadh and Consulate in Jeddah are giving the fullest support to Indian nationals and families affected by this accident," the minister said in a post on X.

"Sincere condolences to the bereaved families. Pray for the speedy recovery of those injured," he added.
