Sasaram Assembly Election 2025: RLM’s Snehlata Kushwaha vs RJD’s Satyendra Sah in High-Stakes Battle in Bihar

The upcoming Bihar Assembly Election 2025 has brought Sasaram into sharp focus, as the historic constituency witnesses a competitive face-off between Rashtriya Lok Morcha's Snehlata Kushwaha, representing the NDA, and Rashtriya Janata Dal's Satyendra Sah, contesting from the Mahagathbandhan alliance.

The contest is being viewed as one that blends political legacy, gender representation, and caste arithmetic in a politically sensitive region.

Snehlata Kushwaha: Continuing Upendra Kushwaha's Political Legacy

Snehlata Kushwaha, wife of Rashtriya Lok Morcha chief and senior NDA leader Upendra Kushwaha, has been fielded from the Sasaram seat as part of the NDA's seat-sharing arrangement. Her nomination reflects the RLM's effort to consolidate the Koeri-Kushwaha (OBC) vote bank, which has long been pivotal in this region.

A newcomer to electoral politics, Snehlata is being positioned as a symbol of women's empowerment within a party that seeks to expand its reach among rural women voters. With Upendra Kushwaha's strong organisational backing and long-standing influence in the region, she is expected to carry forward his political agenda of "education and empowerment for all."

Speaking after her nomination, Snehlata said, "My focus will be on development and social justice. I want to carry forward the vision my husband has for Sasaram and ensure that every section of society benefits from government schemes."

Satyendra Sah: RJD's Grassroots Representative

On the Mahagathbandhan front, Satyendra Sah, a local RJD leader known for his grassroots activism, has been fielded to challenge the NDA's stronghold. Sah belongs to the Extremely Backward Class (EBC) community and is regarded as a close confidant of the RJD leadership, particularly Tejashwi Yadav, who is counting on a strong anti-incumbency wave to tilt the balance in favor of the alliance.

Sah has built his reputation through local-level work in education and welfare sectors. His campaign is centred on addressing unemployment, agrarian distress, and the alleged neglect of backward and minority communities under the NDA government.

In a recent rally, Sah remarked, "Sasaram deserves real change, not symbolism. We will restore faith in governance by ensuring opportunities reach the poorest first."

The Caste Equation and the Battle Ahead

Sasaram, a politically active constituency in southwest Bihar, has always been driven by caste coalitions, particularly among Koeris, Dalits, and Yadavs. The entry of Snehlata Kushwaha brings the Koeri factor to the forefront, while Satyendra Sah's candidature seeks to unify EBC and Yadav voters under the Mahagathbandhan banner.

Observers believe this contest could turn into one of the closest in the region, with women's participation and local developmental issues emerging as decisive factors. As campaigning heats up, both candidates are leaving no stone unturned to win over Sasaram's diverse electorate.
