Sansad TV's Ticker Sparks Outrage During No-Confidence Debate
The broadcast of Lok Sabha proceedings on Sansad TV today ignited a major dispute due to the content displayed on the scrolling ticker, as the debate over the no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi government was underway.
The Congress's deputy leader in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, initiated the debate after a commotion arose over BJP MPs' queries regarding the absence of Rahul Gandhi as the opening speaker. The subsequent speaker listed was BJP MP Nishikant Dubey.

However, just before Nishikant Dubey's turn to speak, Danish Ali, a Member of Parliament from Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party, drew attention to the ticker on Sansad TV. He pointed out that the ticker was featuring updates on the government's achievements rather than reflecting the ongoing debate. Interestingly, the Bahujan Samaj Party neither supported nor opposed the no-confidence motion.
Ali's observation triggered a significant uproar, leading Opposition MPs to raise protests. Amidst the chaos, Speaker Om Birla made a lighthearted remark, saying, "Mere paas button nahi hai (I don't have the button)." The Speaker also playfully commented to Mr. Dubey that the Opposition seemed "afraid" of his impending speech.
During his subsequent speech, Nishikant Dubey directed criticism at the Opposition and Mr. Ali. He took a dig at the MP from Amroha, referring to a recent video in which Mr. Ali engaged in a heated argument with a BJP legislator at a public event.
In the midst of the controversy over the viral video, BJP MLC Hari Singh Dhillon asserted that Mr. Ali had protested against the chant of "Bharat Mata ki Jai" (Hail Mother India) slogans at a government event. The Bahujan Samaj Party leader responded by stating that BJP leaders had commandeered the stage and began chanting slogans in support of their own leaders. He questioned the transformation of a government event stage into a political platform.
The no-confidence motion was presented by the Opposition as a final attempt to compel Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address Parliament regarding the situation in Manipur.
