West Bengal
Kolkata, Feb 8: While it was a smooth way for Congress candidate from Uttar Pradesh-Sanjay Singh-in Assam, West Bengal stole the show as all four Trinamool candidates marched victory to the Rajya Sabha, thanks to the rampant cross-voting between the Trinamool and the Opposition party. Veteran actor Mithun Chakravarty led the march.

The Congress MLA who is said to have voted for Trinamool was Imani Biswas from Suti (Murshidabad) and Sushil Roy from Gajol (Malda) that won Trinamool's Ahmed Hassan, who is the editor of the Urdu daily.

Both the Congress MLAs have been suspended from the party. While the Congress blames that the opposition is buying the candidates, the latter (Trinammol)
claims that the reason behind cross voting is the fact the MLAs now wish to work for Trinamool.

In a tug of war between CPI (M) leader Biman Bose and Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee, the former said: "The ruling party is sitting on piles of cash. They think money can dictate everything."

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee answered back,"Those who are in other parties but have voted for our candidate have done so as they want to work for Trinamool Congress."

Apart from Mithun Chakravarty, the other 3 candidates to win were artist Jogen Chowdhury, businessman KD Singh and Ahmed Hassan.

Regional figures

Odisha: BJD won 3, Congress 1
Andhra Pradesh: Congress 3, TDP 2, TRS 1
