‘Rohingya Muslims being radicalised; are a ticking time bomb’
Rohingya Muslims are a ticking time bomb and India wants an immediate solution to the problem. India has warned Myanmar of the problem and has said that Pakistan-based militants were exploiting the radicalisation of the Rohingya Muslims.
India has conveyed to Myanmar that the Rohingya Muslims are being radicalised by the Lashkar-e-Tayiba. The LeT is planning on using these persons to strike at India from Myanmar, India said.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval who conveyed the message to his counterpart in Myanmar said that the issue needs to be resolved as it is a ticking time bomb. He advised them to find a political solution to the problem.
"India feels that a crackdown alone will not work. Steps ought to be taken in Myanmar to ensure that LeT sympathisers who are into radicalisation must be stopped. A major crackdown on the Rohingyas alone would be counter-productive, India feels. India also shared intelligence it had picked up on this issue. Indian Intelligence Bureau officials said that the LeT through its charitable wings had gained entry into Myanmar. These wings are just an eye-wash and the real intent was to radicalise the Rohingya Muslims.
Sources say that the issue is not just dangerous for India alone. "It is a threat to the entire region and could spill out into countries such as Bangladesh as well. The officer also noted that the LeT started spreading its wings into Myanmar from 2012 onwards. When Hafiz Saeed, the chief of the outfit announced publicly that they are viewing the cause of the Rohingyas sympathetically, it was a signal that a major radicalisation drive was about to be carried out.
