Ravi Chopra, the director of 'Baghban' passes away at 68; Industry mourns the soulful storyteller

Mumbai, Nov 13: Filmmaker and director Ravi Chopra, son of another famous director late BR Chopra, passed away on Wednesday at around 3:30 pm at MUmbai's Breach Candy Hospital. A source close to his family said,"He passed away today at around 3:30 pm. His funeral most probably will take place tomorrow at around 11." He was reported to have been suffering from severe lung ailment since the last few years.

He was first diagnosed with a severe lung ailment on Oct 23, 2012 and was discharged from the hospital after a week. He was in for Lung Cancer and is getting his treatment at CMC Vellore.

He is survived by his wife and three children. He was the director of 'Baghban', 'The Burning Train' Aaj Ki Awaz' and 'Baabul' among others. Some of the other popular, including children's films he has been directing include 'Zameer', 'Mazdoor', 'Dahleez', 'Bhoothnath' and 'Bhoothnath Returns'. He is also known for directing his epic on TV-Mahabharat.

Born on 27th September 1926, he belongs to a family of legendary directors, which include Yash Chopra (his uncle) and Aditya and Uday Chopra (his cousins).

Film stars and fans mourn his death on Twitter and Facebook. Singer Sonu Nigam, for instance said,"Saddened 2 learn of Shri Ravi Chopra's demise. Always found him to b a robust man etrmly humble. Suffered a lot though. God bless his soul."
