Ram Navami Procession in Kanpur Faces Allegations of Stone Pelting, Police Call It a Rumour
Security was heightened in the Nai Sadak area following claims that stones were thrown at a Ram Navami procession on Sunday evening. Police dismissed these claims as rumours, stating the situation was stable. Deputy Commissioner of Police East, Shrawan Kumar Singh, confirmed receiving a complaint from the Shobha Yatra organisers about stones being thrown from rooftops near Chandreshwar Hata.

A video showing people fleeing the area sparked these rumours. The complaint mentioned that trouble began when stones were allegedly thrown at devotees during the procession's return. However, DCP Singh noted that initial investigations suggest these are just rumours, as no one was injured by stones or bricks.
Police Investigation and Public Appeal
The police have thoroughly inspected the area and reviewed CCTV footage but found no evidence supporting the allegations. They have urged the public, including media personnel, to share any video or photographic evidence that could help verify the claims and assist in the investigation.
DCP Singh emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and urged people not to believe in rumours. As a precautionary measure, additional police forces from nearby stations have been deployed to prevent any incidents. The situation remains under control, with authorities staying vigilant.
Video Footage and Investigation
Some video clips circulating show individuals fleeing, which has added to the controversy. However, the authenticity of these videos is still under scrutiny. The police have initiated an investigation into the incident to ascertain the facts.
DCP Singh assured that those spreading false information would face strict action. The police continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure peace is maintained in the area.
