Ram Mandir: Why The Color Of Ramlalla's Idol Is Black? Unveiling The Symbolic Meaning

The grand ceremony of Pran Pratishtha was conducted in Ayodhya Ram Mandir on January 22, during which the Pran Pratishtha ceremony was overseen by Prime Minister Modi.

The event saw the presence of numerous prominent figures, including Bollywood celebrities, politicians, and other well-known personalities of the country.

Ram Lalla

Following the revelation of the first visuals of the Ram Lalla's idol in Ayodhya, many questions are being raised in the minds of people about why the idol of Ramlala is black or dark in color.

Shyamshila: The Durable Stone Behind Ramlalla's Idol

The stone used in the construction of Ramlalla's idol, known as Shyamshila, holds a special significance due to its exceptional quality, renowned for its enduring nature that can withstand the test of time for over a thousand years. The selection of Shyamshilla is guided by practical considerations, especially in the context of Hindu rituals. In Hinduism, it is customary to anoint the idol with substances such as milk and water during ceremonies that can cause damage to the idol in the long run. The use of Shyamshilla as stone safeguards the longevity and integrity of the idol, reported India Times.

Shyamshilla's Significance: Depicting Lord Rama's Form in Valmiki Ramayana

Champat Rai, the General Secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, mentioned in a statement that the idol of Lord Shri Ramlala, constructed from Shyamshilla, is in the form of a five-year-old boy, reported Hindustan Times. He highlighted that the idol, standing at 51 inches tall, is made of black stone, depicting many incarnations of God. The choice of Shyamshilla finds significance in Maharshi Valmiki's descriptions in the Ramayana, portraying Lord Rama in a Shyamal roop, emphasizing the connection between the idol's appearance and the scriptural narrative.
