Rahul Gandhi Accepts Debate Invitation From Ex-Judges, Awaits PM Modi's Response
An invitation to engage in a public debate with Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accepted by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday, following a request made by two former judges and a senior journalist through a letter sent to both leaders.
The invitation, extended by former Judges Madan B Lokur, Ajit P Shah, and senior journalist N Ram, aimed to prompt a proper response to the allegations and challenges exchanged between the two sides during the Lok Sabha Election.

Rahul Gandhi Accepts Debate Invitation BUT...
In their letter, it was emphasized that the public had only heard allegations and challenges from either side and had not received meaningful responses, highlighting the importance of a public debate to address this concern. They expressed the belief that citizens would greatly benefit from hearing directly from political leaders through a non-partisan and non-commercial platform, aiming to strengthen the democratic process.
Rahul Gandhi, in response to the invitation, conveyed on X that such a debate "would be a positive initiative for the major parties to present their vision to the country from one platform for a healthy democracy." He expressed the Congress party's acceptance of the invitation and the expectation for the Prime Minister to participate in the dialogue.
"I have discussed your invitation with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. We agree that such a debate will help people understand our respective vision and enable them to make an informed choice. It is also critical to put to rest any unsubstantiated allegations attributed to our respective parties. As the principal parties fighting the election, the public deserve to hear from their leaders directly. Accordingly, either myself or the Congress President would be pleased to participate in such a debate," Rahul stated in his letter.
Rahul Gandhi further added, "Please do let us know if and when the Prime Minister agrees to participate, following which we can discuss the details and format of the debate. Thank you once again for your initiative. I look forward to participating in a productive and historic debate."
The former judges and journalist, in their letter to the leaders, underscored the importance of the public hearing responses from political leaders, emphasizing the potential of a public debate to strengthen the democratic process and project a true image of a healthy and vibrant democracy.
