After being halted by police, Ajay Rai staged a sit-in protest on the road. He was accompanied by several leaders, including former minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui and Sitapur MP Rakesh Rathore. The police later transported all leaders and supporters present with Rai to the police line by bus.
The Congress claimed they have supported Valmiki's family since day one. Party members were present at the hospital when Valmiki was taken there and remained until his post-mortem was completed.
Sangeeta Valmiki expressed gratitude towards CM Adityanath after their meeting. "Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has supported us at every level. I am grateful to him. Baba is the only one who can protect Dalits. We are completely satisfied with the government's action and are confident that justice will be served," she said.
