Kochi, Feb 21: The Kerala police is probing the role of a "quotation mafia," in connection with the abduction and molestation case involving a popular actress. A leading actress was allegedly abducted and molested by a seven member gang. The criminals also took pictures of her and blackmailed her before letting her go.

In Kerala, the "quotation mafia," undertakes jobs at the behest of a person who hands out a contract. The involvement of this mafia has led the police to believe that there could be a conspiracy angle to this incident.

There has been talk that a rift between the actress and a leading actor could have resulted in this incident. When a senior police officer part of the probe was contacted, he said that they are probing every angle. "We are also probing to find out if this incident took place to tarnish her image and damage her career," the officer also said.

Meanwhile the police have prepared a list of 2,100 history sheeters. They would be questioned for more leads into the case. The police say that they are also on the hunt for the fugitives. The probe is an open ended one and several angles are being looked into. The role of the "quotation mafia," too is under the scanner. Prima facie it appears as though the men were hired and paid to carry out the task. While these facts are clear, we are probing the motive behind the incident, the police also say.
