Rohini Acharya Quits Politics and Disowns Family Following RJD's Bihar Assembly Poll Defeat

After the RJD's defeat in the Bihar assembly polls, Rohini Acharya announced her exit from politics and disowned her family, attributing blame to aides of Tejashwi Yadav. Her statement reflects deep dissatisfaction with party dynamics.

Following a significant loss in the Bihar assembly elections, Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD leader Lalu Prasad, has pointed fingers at two of her brother Tejashwi Yadav's close associates. On Saturday, Acharya expressed her frustration with them, attributing the party's defeat to their influence. This came after she announced her departure from politics and disowned her family on social media.

Acharya, who is a doctor by profession but chose to be a homemaker in Singapore with her husband, made headlines with her social media post. She stated, "I am quitting politics and I am disowning my family. This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do, and I am taking all the blame." Sanjay Yadav is an RJD Rajya Sabha MP and a trusted aide of Tejashwi Yadav.

RJD's Election Setback

The RJD's performance in the Bihar assembly elections was disappointing, with their seat count dropping from 75 to 24. The election results were announced on November 14. The ruling NDA coalition retained power in Bihar, highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's enduring appeal. This outcome was a setback for both the Congress and its ally RJD.

Acharya's comments at the airport before leaving for Delhi added fuel to the fire. She told reporters, "I have no family. Do not ask me anything. Pose questions to Tejashwi Yadav, Sanjay Yadav and Rameez. Somebody has to take responsibility." Her remarks suggested dissatisfaction with the party's internal dynamics.

Internal Party Dynamics

Rameez, another figure mentioned by Acharya, is known as an old friend of Tejashwi Yadav from a political family in Uttar Pradesh. However, Acharya did not clarify what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez specifically said to her. Both individuals were unavailable for comment following her statements.

Acharya had previously contested the Lok Sabha elections from Saran last year but was unsuccessful. There were speculations about her being upset over Tej Pratap Yadav's expulsion from the party. Despite this, she campaigned for Tejashwi during the assembly elections.

Family Tensions

In a brief interaction with journalists, Acharya questioned the roles of Sanjay and Rameez within the party. She remarked, "As a dedicated party worker, I am questioning the role of Sanjay and Rameez who pose as Chanakyas. But if you even utter their name, you end up being insulted and have slippers thrown at you."

Acharya gained attention previously for donating a kidney to her father Lalu Prasad. Her recent actions and statements have further highlighted tensions within the RJD family dynamics.

The political landscape in Bihar remains challenging for the RJD as they navigate internal conflicts and external pressures following their electoral defeat.
