Punjab Human Rights Panel Issues Notice To ADGP In Sangrur Jail Clash Case
A show-cause notice was issued to the additional director general of police (ADGP), prisons, Arun Pal Singh by the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC). The notice comes after the clash that resulted in the death of two prisoners and injury of two others in Punjab's Sangrur district jail, reported Hindustan Times.
The incident, which occurred on Friday night, was termed a distressing development by the commission, which took suo motu cognizance of the matter.

Punjab Human Rights Panel Issues Notice To ADGP
A comprehensive report on the incident has been requested by the commission from the ADGP, prisons, at least a week before the next hearing scheduled on May 10. Following the incident, four inmates were taken to Sangrur Civil Hospital, where two inmates, identified as Harsh and Dharminder, were declared dead, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Inmates Gagandeep Singh and Mohammad Sehwag, seriously injured, were referred to the Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. A doctor, requesting anonymity, indicated that the nature of the wounds suggests they were inflicted by a sharp-edged weapon.
Punjab Jail Clash Leaves Two Dead and Two Injured
- At least two people were killed and two critically injured after a clash among prisoners broke out in Punjab's Sangrur jail on Friday.
- The incident is currently under investigation by the police, who are trying to ascertain the cause of the clashes that resulted in injuries to four individuals, two of whom succumbed to their injuries, as reported by India TV.
- It was stated by an official that the police are investigating the circumstances leading to the clashes between prisoners, with four inmates sustaining injuries in the incident, two of whom later succumbed to their injuries at a hospital.
- Speaking to reporters, a doctor treating the injured at the government hospital in Sangrur mentioned, "A total of four patients were brought to this hospital from jail. Two were deceased, and two individuals are in serious condition."
- The deceased inmates were identified as Harsh and Dharmender, while the injured, identified as Gagandeep Singh and Mohd Sehwaz, were referred to a hospital in Patiala for further treatment, as per media reports.
- According to doctors, Gagandeep and Mohd Sehwaz have sustained serious injuries on their backs, heads, arms, and ears caused by a sharp object.
