Bengal remained tense for the third day in a row, with prohibitory orders being extended and internet remaining snapped in many parts of the state.

BJP MLA BIman Gosh who was part of the procession was also injured in the clash. Reports suggested that stone were pelted during the procession.

The police have so far arrested 12 persons who had indulged in vandalism and setting cars ablaze.

Taking into account the gravity of the situation, the police have imposed Section 144, which bars the assembly of four or more persons at a place. Heavy police deployment is also in place to prevent any flare up.

Two Ram Navami processions were organised in the Rishra police station limits by the BJP and Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other Hindu organisations on Sunday. The second procession came under attack at the Wellington Jute Mill More on G T Road at around 6.15 pm, the price said.

Ghosh according to an India Today report suffered injures in the eye in the stone pelting. The assailants even hurled bombs too, he alleged. He wrote to Bengal Governor, C V Ananda Bose claiming that the attack on the procession was planned and took place due to police inaction. He even sought the deployment of central forces in Bengal.

BJP's vice-president, Dilip Ghosh told news agency PTI that he was part o the second procession. The stone pelting and vandalism was unprovoked, he also said.

The BJP has slammed the Trinamool Congress government for the violence and said that it failed to maintain law and order in the state.

"Hindus are afraid in West Bengal. They may be attacked again," Ghosh said.

The state's Industry Minister, Shashi Panja on the other hand accused the BJP of trying to destroy peace and tranquility in the state.

"BJP is known for vandalism of public property, and triggering communal riots all over the country," Panja also said.

The Trinamool Congress' Jayprakash Majumdar went a step ahead and questioned the need to organise a procession, two days after Ram Namavmi.

"Why is the BJP so hell-bent upon taking out the processions two days after Ram Navami? The BJP wants to engineer riots in Bengal to create instability for political gains," he told PTI.
