Jammu Lok Sabha Constituency Employees Vote via Postal Ballot Ahead of Polls
In a significant move to enhance democratic participation, postal ballot voting was conducted in the Jammu Lok Sabha constituency, specifically within the Kalakote-Subderbani assembly segment. This initiative, held on Saturday, comes ahead of the polls scheduled for the second phase on April 26. The process saw participation from 48 employees across various departments who opted for this voting method, highlighting the efforts to ensure that those engaged in election duties could exercise their voting rights conveniently.

The introduction of postal ballot voting in this region marks a crucial step towards making the electoral process more accessible. According to an official spokesperson, this method allows employees involved in election work to cast their votes without the need to be physically present at polling stations. This initiative not only facilitates the participation of these individuals but also underscores the commitment to uphold democratic values by enabling wider voter engagement.
On the ground, preparations for the upcoming elections are being meticulously reviewed. District Election Officer Rajouri, Om Prakash Bhagat, along with Deputy Inspector General, Rajouri-Poonch Range, Tejinder Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police, Amrit Pal Singh, made visits to assess the readiness. Their focus was on evaluating security measures, logistical arrangements, and ensuring a transparent electoral process. The team's visit included a stop at the dispatch centre established in boys higher secondary school Kalakote, further emphasizing the thoroughness of the preparations.
The Jammu Lok Sabha seat, redefined based on the recommendations of the delimitation commission in 2022, spans 18 segments across three districts: Jammu, Samba, and Reasi, with an additional segment in Rajouri. This expansive constituency includes diverse areas such as Bishnah SC, Suchetgarh SC, and Gulabgarh ST among others. The upcoming elections see 23 candidates vying for this seat, with notable figures like BJP’s incumbent MP Jugal Kishore seeking a third consecutive term against Raman Bhalla of Congress. Other candidates include Jagdish Raj from Bahujan Samaj Party and Ankur Sharma from Ekam Sanatan Bharat Dal.
This electoral exercise in Jammu Lok Sabha constituency exemplifies the efforts to adapt and innovate within the democratic process. By facilitating postal ballot voting for those engaged in election duties, authorities have taken a significant step towards ensuring no voter is left behind due to professional commitments. As the region gears up for the second phase of polling on April 26, these measures reflect a broader commitment to uphold and strengthen democratic participation across all segments of society.
