PM wants to kill us: Tamil Nadu Farmers on day 100 of protest

On day 100 of their protest at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar, Tamil Nadu farmers held human flesh in their mouths to attract the attention of the Central Government on Tuesday. They said, tomorrow we will slit our throat. On Sunday, the farmers consumed their own excreta.

They Talking to Oneindia News, Ayyakkammu, President of National South Indian Rivers Interlinking Farmers Association said, "We are not demanding for anything more than what we deserve. If salaries have increased for all other professions over the years, why can't farmers expect profitable price for their produce?

He also expressed his angst against the Centre, in particular, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, "Prime Minister Modi came to power with the support of the farmers, now he is treating us like untouchables. He is killing the farmers,"

"We have done everything from holding dead rats in our mouths to marching naked with skulls and bones of debt-ridden farmers who committed suicide, to drinking urine and eating our own excreta. We still did not get any response from the Government."

Here is a list of their demands:

• Profitable price for agricultural products
• Implementation of National Water Ways Project of Engineer A.C Kamaraj
• Crop Insurance Scheme for individual farmers
• Waiving off of Farmer's Nationalised Bank Loan
• Prevention of Tamil Nadu into turning to desert by formation of Cauvery River Management Board
• Monthly pension of Rs 5000 for farmers above the age of 60 years even if they have children and land

Ayyakkammu said that during the stretch of their protest they were not supplied food and drinking water, and when some of the farmers were affected by Dengue in the National Capital, they were denied treatment in Government Hospitals, they were asked to go back to Tamil Nadu for treatment.

He also alleged that BJP workers had issued them threats if they don't stop their protest.

The protest started from March 12, and in the middle after assurance from the Central and State Government, the farmers went back to Tamil Nadu, only to return as the promises made were not fulfilled.

The farmers resumed their protest when the Supreme Court stayed the order of the Madras High Court which had directed the State Government to waive off all agricultural loans.
