Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Eyes India Debut After IPL 2026 Success; Here's What BCCI Thinks

Teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is moving closer to a debut for the Indian senior team. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that the 15-year-old is firmly on the selectors' radar. Saikia stated that fans could expect to see Sooryavanshi in the senior Blues in the near future.

Saikia stressed that the selection team had followed IPL 2026 in detail. According to Saikia, a first call-up for Sooryavanshi is unlikely to be far away if current form continues. The comments have increased interest around the youngster's next step with India.

Explaining the process, Saikia pointed out that selectors were present across venues during IPL 2026. Saikia said, "Vaibhav is a new wonderkid in Indian cricket, and I'm sure he will also take the world by storm in the coming days. All our selectors are part of the IPL tournament; everybody, all the selectors are watching these matches very closely, and in most cases, they are also present at the venue, Saikia told Hindustan Times."

Saikia added that Sooryavanshi's future would be handled with care during upcoming meetings. Saikia said, "So, in the upcoming selection meetings for the Indian team's UK trip, I'm sure the selectors will do whatever is necessary and is in his best interest, given the way he has performed. Many other players performed exceedingly well. But Vaibhav is exceptional, and I am very happy that God is kind, that a new wonderkid has been presented to the Indian cricket scene at this stage, and that he will definitely cross the boundaries very soon."

The right-hander's IPL 2026 displays created major attention across cricket. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, Sooryavanshi scored 776 runs in 16 matches. The strike rate stood at 237.31, with 72 sixes and 63 fours. During that season, Sooryavanshi broke Chris Gayle's IPL record of 59 sixes and collected five awards.

That campaign also brought rapid milestones in the T20 format. Sooryavanshi became the fastest batter to reach 2000 T20 runs. The youngster also became the quickest to 1000 IPL runs. Sooryavanshi is now part of India A for the One-day tri-series against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A, before India visit Ireland and England later in June.

With those figures and early honours, discussion about promoting Sooryavanshi has grown quickly. India A duties will give selectors more information before the UK tour squads are finalised. Saikia's remarks suggest that if current performances continue, a senior India role for Sooryavanshi will likely follow sooner rather than later.
