PM Modi to Attend G20 Summit in Brazil as Part of Three-Nation Tour
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a three-nation tour starting November 16, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). His itinerary includes visits to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana. This trip marks the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Nigeria in 17 years. The tour aims to strengthen India's ties with these nations.

Modi's journey begins in Nigeria from November 16 to 17, following an invitation from Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The visit will focus on reviewing the strategic partnership between India and Nigeria. Discussions will cover enhancing bilateral relations, and Modi will address the Indian community there. India and Nigeria have been strategic partners since 2007, with significant economic and defence collaborations.
G20 Summit in Brazil
After Nigeria, Modi will head to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, for the G20 summit on November 18-19. As part of the G20 troika with Brazil and South Africa, India will present its stance on global issues. The prime minister aims to build on outcomes from previous summits like the G20 New Delhi Leaders Declaration. On the sidelines, Modi is expected to meet various world leaders.
India's presidency of the G20 concluded on November 30 last year. During its tenure, India focused on inclusive growth, digital innovation, climate financing, and equitable health access. These efforts primarily aimed at benefiting developing countries or the Global South.
Strengthening Ties with Guyana
The final leg of Modi's tour takes him to Guyana from November 19 to 21 at President Mohamed Irfaan Ali's invitation. This visit marks the first by an Indian prime minister since 1968. In Guyana, Modi will engage in discussions with President Ali and other senior leaders. He will also address Guyana's Parliament and meet the Indian diaspora.
During his stay in Georgetown, Modi will participate in the second CARICOM-India Summit. He plans to meet leaders from CARICOM member countries to bolster India's longstanding friendship with the Caribbean region. CARICOM is an intergovernmental organisation comprising 15 member states focused on economic integration and cooperation.
India's relationship with Nigeria has seen over USD 27 billion invested by more than 200 Indian companies in key sectors. The two nations also share a robust development cooperation partnership. This tour underscores India's commitment to strengthening ties with these countries through strategic partnerships and collaborative efforts.
