Asserting that the government's Swachch Bharat campaign is aimed at making India a cleaner nation, President Kovind said it is every citizen's duty to keep the nation clean.
In his address to the nation on the eve of 71st Independence Day, President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday highlighted initiatives undertaken by government and stressed on the importance of abiding by laws.
Paying his tribute to thousands of freedom fighters who fought for nation's independence, the President said the country must believe in peace and unity.
"It is time that we must take inspiration from those who gave their lives for the nation and move forward...We are indebted to those who laid down there lives for our independence," he said.
Asserting that the government's Swachch Bharat campaign is aimed at making India a cleaner nation, President Kovind said it is every citizen's duty to keep the nation clean.
"We should pay special attention to our divyang brothers and sisters," he added.
The President also mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to the citizens to give up subsidies on LPG connections and said, "On PM's appeal more than one crore families voluntarily gave up LPG subsidy so that a gas cylinder could reach kitchen of a poorer family."

President Kovind also called for raising the standard of education in the country and said everyone must work together to ensure that benefits of government policies reach all sections of society.
