Intruders Breach Parliament Security, Causing Chaos in Lok Sabha

Two individuals breached Parliament security, entering the Lok Sabha and releasing yellow smoke, while two others protested outside. An investigation into the well-coordinated incident is underway.

In a major security breach on the anniversary of the deadly 2001 Parliament terror attack, two individuals jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors' gallery on Wednesday, December 13. The incident caused panic and chaos in the House as the intruders shouted slogans and released yellow smoke from canisters.

Parliament Security Compromised: Intruders Disrupt Lok Sabha Proceedings

Well-Planned and Coordinated Breach

Police sources revealed that the security breach was a well-planned and well-coordinated incident involving six individuals who were in contact with each other through social media platforms. The intruders, identified as Sagar Sharma (26) and Manoranjan D (34), managed to enter the Lok Sabha chamber with visitor passes facilitated by two-term Lok Sabha member from Mysuru, Prathap Simha of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Intervention by Alert Members

As the intruders attempted to approach the Speaker's chair, alert members of Parliament, including Hanuman Beniwal, Malook Nagar, and Gurjeet Singh Aujla, overpowered and thrashed them. The intruders were then handed over to security personnel.

Opposition Demands Statement from Home Minister

Opposition members termed the security breach as the worst since the 2001 terror attack and demanded a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah. They expressed concern that the attackers had managed to reach the Lok Sabha chamber with smoke canisters, which could have had lethal consequences.

Comprehensive Security Review Ordered

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced that a comprehensive security review of Parliament House would be conducted. However, he clarified that the preliminary inquiry did not indicate any links to Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who had issued threats to attack Parliament.

All-Party Meeting and Tightening of Security Measures

The Lok Sabha Speaker chaired an all-party meeting where opposition members sought immediate tightening of security measures at Parliament and questioning of BJP member Prathap Simha. The issuance of passes for the visitors' gallery in Parliament House has been suspended with immediate effect, and the Lok Sabha Secretariat has written to the Union Home Ministry seeking a review of security measures.

Detained Intruders and Ongoing Investigation

All four individuals involved in the incident, including those who were nabbed outside Parliament premises, have been detained for questioning. Police have also detained a fifth person from Gurugram. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the motives behind the security breach and identify any potential accomplices.

Father of Detained Intruder Expresses Shock

Devaraje Gowda, the father of Manoranjan, expressed shock and disbelief over his son's involvement in the incident. He described his son as a good and honest individual who was passionate about social welfare. Gowda speculated that his son's actions may have been influenced by his reading of Swami Vivekananda's books.

Heightened Security and Lessons Learned

Security has been beefed up in the Parliament area following the incident. The breach has raised serious questions about the security measures in place and the need for thorough background checks for visitors. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and robust security protocols to prevent such breaches in the future.
