Pandharpur's Future Development to Involve Local Resident Consultations: CM Shinde
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated on Tuesday that the development of Pandharpur, a significant temple town, will proceed only after consulting its residents. He assured that no decisions would be imposed without their input. Speaking to reporters on the eve of Ashadhi Ekadashi, Shinde emphasised the need for comprehensive development in Pandharpur, which attracts lakhs of warkaris, devotees of Lord Vitthal.

Development Plans for Pandharpur
Shinde highlighted that the Mahayuti government plans to develop Pandharpur similarly to the Kashi Vishwanath corridor. He reiterated that local people's views would be considered before any development decisions are made. "Pandharpur's development will be done after taking into consideration the views of people. Local people will be consulted, and no decision will be imposed on them," Shinde said.
Every year, as per tradition, the chief minister and his spouse perform the mahapuja of Lord Vitthal on Ashadhi Ekadashi. This ritual underscores the importance of the town and its cultural significance.
Addressing Criticism and Prioritising Public Issues
During an event, Shinde addressed criticism regarding his use of a helicopter to travel to his village in Satara district. He explained that flying saves at least ten hours of road travel, enabling him to spend more time addressing public issues. "I am the son of a farmer. When I go to my village, I visit my farm. Some people referring to Uddhav Thackeray say that he [Shinde] goes there in a helicopter and does farming. Now you tell me, should I drive for ten hours to reach my village? In ten hours I can deal with the issues of thousands of people," Shinde remarked.
Shinde also mentioned that his government has relaxed norms to ensure maximum compensation for farmers affected by adverse weather conditions. Over two years, Rs 15,000 crore has been paid in compensation to farmers.
Financial Support for Farmers
The government has also allocated Rs 44,000 crore under various schemes aimed at supporting farmers. This financial assistance is part of a broader effort to bolster agricultural resilience and sustainability in Maharashtra.
The Chief Minister's statements reflect a commitment to both local development and addressing broader agricultural challenges faced by farmers in the state.
Shinde's approach underscores a balance between modernisation and respecting local traditions and needs, ensuring that development initiatives are inclusive and considerate of residents' opinions.
